Headless Shopify + Next.js: Building a D2C/B2B Export Pipeline for a Gate Automation Manufacturer

How we paired headless Shopify Plus with a Next.js storefront to give a factory-direct gate automation manufacturer a fast, conversion-ready e-commerce pipeline for both retail and wholesale export buyers.

Open Bear manufactures automatic gate openers and sells them factory-direct, both to individual buyers and as wholesale export orders. Their storefront, live at openbear.com, is one of ours — listed on our /projects page alongside the rest of our live client work.

The problem

Open Bear needed one storefront that could serve two very different buyers at once: a retail customer comparing 24V DC gate opener specs before a single purchase, and a wholesale/export buyer placing a bulk factory-direct order. That meant the site needed genuine e-commerce checkout reliability alongside detailed, comparable technical spec content — most gate-automation competitor sites do only one of those well.

One storefront, two buyer types: retail customers comparing specs, and wholesale/export buyers placing bulk factory-direct orders.

What we built

We paired headless Shopify Plus commerce with a Next.js server-rendered frontend. Shopify handles checkout, inventory and order processing reliably, while Next.js gives us full control over page speed and the programmatic, keyword-driven landing pages buyers actually search for. We also built interactive, responsive product spec tables so a buyer can compare 24V DC gate opener variants without leaving the page.

  • ▸Headless Shopify Plus for secure, reliable checkout and inventory.
  • ▸Next.js SSR frontend for speed and programmatic landing-page architecture.
  • ▸Interactive product specification tables built for side-by-side technical comparison.
  • ▸Global CDN delivery for consistent performance across both domestic and export buyers.

The result

The rebuilt pipeline established a working D2C and B2B export channel for Open Bear, generating steady international wholesale leads and direct product inquiries — proof that a headless commerce architecture can serve both a single retail buyer and a bulk export order from the same storefront.
